| Don Okerson |
| Occupation:
I retired from teaching in 1992 when I was 57 years old. Five
years before retirement, in 1987, I bought a condominium at Centre
Village in downtown Minneapolis where I continue to live today. My
choice of residence is good because I'm within four blocks of good
shopping, church, good restaurants, and various activities. I have
served on the condo's Board of Directors, and as its President.
I am divorced with five (5) children: Gina Fischer in Brooklyn Park, Colette Patterson in Champlin, Curtis Okerson in South Minneapolis, Eric Okerson in Champlin, Alex Okerson in Big Lake; and have ten (10) grandchildren. Other Information: In April and May of 2000, I spent some time in the hospital with congestive heart failure. Although the cardiologist pronounced me "cured," I continue to have some weakness. Following this I became diabetic, regulating this problem with diet and exercise (and for now, one pill per day). On December 20, 2002, I was at dinner with friends at The Spaghetti Factory in Minneapolis when my ankle suddenly broke---both the tibia and the fibula. Anyway, after all this, I use a Pride Celebrity scooter to get around when I go longer distances, but around the house and in my building and for short trips I can walk (carefully). My spirits are high, and I still enjoy friends and a variety of activities. I wish all of you in the class of '78 a happy reunion. I have some good memories from around your era, and I thank you for sharing an earlier part of your life with me. |
